General information about Uzbekistan

Location: Uzbekistan is situated in central and northern part of Central Asia. Bordered by Afghanistan to the South, Turkmenistan to the West, Kazakhstan to the North, Kirgizistan to the North -East and Tajikistan to the East. The South and east are dominated by Tien -Shan and Pamir-Alai Mountain ranges and the Kyzyl Kum desert lies to the North-East. The North -Western autonomous region of Karakalpakstan is bounded by the Aral Sea and the sparly populated Ustyurt Plateau with it's vast cotton fields.
Area: 447.400 sq. km.
Population: Uzbekistan is a multinational state. There are over 22.5 million inhabits today. Uzbek make 65%, Russian-25%, other nationalities (over 70)-15%.
Capital: The city of Tashkent with the population of 2.7 million inhabitants.
Language: The official language is Uzbek belongs to the Turk group. Russian remains the language of the interethnic communication.
Religion: Under the Uzbekistan Constitution, there is full religious freedom. However Uzbek are predominantly Sunni Muslim with Shia as well forming a small number. Russian orthodox and Jewish minorities coexist with full harmony.

Passport/Visa: A valid passport is required for entry. Most of the countries require visa for entry into Uzbekistan. Visas are also available on arrival at Tashkent airport

Water: Your tap water is potable. Mineral water is available on all stores.
